This may not technically be a lunch you can put in a brown bag, but for when the kids are home and you want to prepare them something special for the holidays, make them reindeer pancakes! Make a large pancake, a smaller pancake to place on top, and two little pieces to make the Reindeer’s ears. For the antlers with Oscar Mayer Bacon. Finish Rudolph off with chocolate chip eyes and a strawberry nose!
Presentation is everything, particularly when it comes to feeding the youngsters. So instead of packing their lunch in a plain ordinary brown bag, let them decorate their own Christmas Tree the night before. Have them glue pom poms and sequins on to the bag for ornaments, or glitter paint to make some garland. The next morning all you need to do is pack up their lunch and fold the top corners inward to make a triangular shape at the top of the bag. Finish their tree by taping on cut out star.
Transform their regular sandwich into Rudolph by just cutting off the crust. Arrange the crust at the top of the “reindeer’s head” to make antlers. Make sure you remember to add the part of Rudolph that makes him stand out from the rest…that big bright red nose. Cut a Grape Tomato in half and put on the top of the sandwich.
Who doesn’t want to see Santa early? Make the kids’ sandwich into Santa Claus (don’t worry–its not as difficult as it sounds). Before you begin, make sure you place this sandwich in a Tupperware container so the sandwich stays well put together. Use a hamburger bun to make their sandwich and fill it with Krauss Honey Ham. Cut a red apple in half and put on top of his “head”. You may need to flatten the bottom of the apple so it will stay in place when you put it down. Rather than putting cheese in between the sliced bun, lay it on top for Santa’s beard. Of course, you’ll have to slice the cheese so there’s room for his eyes and top of his head. Use Great Lakes White American Cheese fresh sliced from our deli. If you want to save a little more time, use a cheese that is already round, like Provolone. Save the cheese you did slice off to use for his eyes. For Santa’s mouth, cut two small pieces of the apple to form his lips. Place them right on top of his beard. Place a piece of wax paper over the space between the hat and face, for the white part of his hat. Then you should see Kris Kringle! Pack up a Rudolph Lollipop as a special treat with their lunch.
Make a BLT Rudolph, using the same concept as the pancake reindeer, use the pieces of bacon for antlers. Take two slices of Freihofer’s Country Bread and use a cookie cutter to make the face round (or just carefully use a knife).
