You might want some hard boiled eggs handy before you tell the kids you’ll be coloring Easter eggs. It’s simple, really, but it does take time. And if your cherubs are eager to decorate, holding them off while the eggs boil and then cool may test your patience as well as theirs.
All you need is a pot with a lid, some water and white eggs. We placed our eggs in a single layer at the bottom of the pot and covered them with cold water just about an inch over the eggs. We put the the pot on the stove and waited for the water to boil. Nothing but water and eggs was added to our pot. And we waited for the water to furiously boil. Then and only then we turned off the burner and removed the pot. Keeping the pot covered to contain the heat we set our stove timer to 18 minutes and waited.
Once the timer went off we brought our pot to the kitchen sink. With the faucet on warm water we filled the pot until in over flowed and brought the temperature down slowly. Then we gently scooped our eggs out of the water one by one and back into the carton and placed them in the refrigerator…and when they were cool to the touch, we made our announcement, “Who feels like coloring eggs?”
