Looking for ways to enjoy refreshing foods while soaking up that sun this summer? Here are some ways to avoid your food from getting ruined in the heat. We also have some great snack suggestions that are perfect to pack in your cooler before heading the beach.
How many of you freeze your fruit? You can freeze cherries as well as berries. Lay on a tray first so they freeze individually, once frozen you can store them in a Ziploc bag or plastic container. Pick up our Fresh Raspberries & Blackberries ($2.99 – Half Pint Container) and freeze them the day before you head to the beach. Or you can pick up Wyman’s Blueberries ($2.79 – 12 oz) along with other Wyman’s Fruit ($2.39 – 12 oz) such as strawberries.
The packages of Fruit Nut and Candy in our produce department seem like they were made specifically for the summertime. They’re perfect to bring to the beach. One of the biggest problems with going to the beach is that sand gets everywhere…including your food. These packages are resealable which help avoid sand from getting in. Another great benefit to our Fruit Nut and Candy Program is our variety. We have hundreds of items to choose from and everyone can pick up their own personal snack. This week’s Featured Item is Assorted Trail Mixes, which are a perfect combination of snacks all rolled into one.
Frozen foods obviously withhold in the heat for a longer period of time. So the more you can freeze, the better. They not only stay cold, but will keep non frozen items cool as well. Pack a frozen Poland Spring 3 Liter Water (.99¢) and some frozen Kool Aid 6 Pack Bursts (10/$10 – 40.8 oz) for the kids.
It can be difficult to stay hydrated in the heat, especially if you’re directly in the sun. Make sure you bring foods that have high water content. We love to bring juicy watermelon.
