Green Tea has been known for numerous health benefits. The increase of research done over the years has proven that there are many reasons for us to drink it. A new found possible advantage has just been added to the list. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, published findings from a recent study that discovered it may prevent serious eye diseases such as Glaucoma. The secret ingredients responsible are called catechins. The lens, retina and other parts of your eye absorb these substances. Catechins are antioxidants, so by the eye absorbing them it gives protection from potential damage. The study conducted found that these helpful antioxidants reduced oxidative stress to the eye for as long as 20 hours.
There was also another finding published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that showed another amazing find. In the study, they found that green tea has a composite that could potentially destroy or ward the development of viruses. After gathering data, research showed the Japanese women in the study who drank Green Tea every day were 41 percent less likely of dying from pneumonia. Of course its difficult to pinpoint the tea as the causal factor, there is strong evidence of a relationship.
The more we research the effects of tea, the list of health benefits seem to grow longer and longer. If you aren’t a big tea drinker, we suggest you start adding it to your diet. Whether its fighting against a cold, reducing your cholesterol, or strengthening your immune system to protect against disease. You really can’t go wrong.
