With so many great items on sale during our Hometown Savings Week, we want to give you some ideas that will help you save your money in the long run.
At such a low price, Trucchi’s Bread (2/$1) is a must-buy. Don’t worry about it getting moldy if you buy too much, that’s what the freezer is for. If you are curious what other uses you have for the bread besides just making sandwiches, try making French Toast for breakfast. You can’t go wrong with a hardy meal before you start your day.
Another way to use up left over bread is to make your own croutons to go with your salad. You don’t have to make it just out of regular bread either. Use your imagination. Try making them with bagels, English muffins or ciabatta bread from our bakery. Nothing lasts forever, so make it last a little longer. Get the most out of what you buy.
If its been a couple days since you bought that Italian or French Bread and its crustier than you’d like it to be, try making some garlic bread with it.
Another great use for leftover bread can really come in handy for all you cooks. Make your own breadcrumbs instead of purchasing a tub of them. Chop your stale bread into small chunks and drop into a food processor (or blender). There you have it. Homemade breadcrumbs.
Sometimes its important to think ahead into next week as well when you’re purchasing your groceries. Maybe you don’t need a 10 lb. bag of Eastern Potatoes ($2.99 ea) this week…but you are planning on needing them for a meal next week. Grab them when they’re on sale. Potatoes last a few weeks and it makes more sense to buy them now.
Although Bananas aren’t in the upcoming ad, this is a problem solver that we find could help a lot of you. If you feel as if you always have an abundant amount of bananas in your kitchen that are fully ripened…we have a suggestion. Make some banana bread with them if you know you’ll just end up throwing them away. Or you could substitute the eggs in your pancake batter with bananas instead. Try it out.
