These problems may not have come up for everyone, but we found them to be common frustrations when working in the kitchen. This is certainly not a cure-all, but hopefully some of annoyances diminish after reading this. Take a look at how we fixed our “Glitches” when it comes to cleaning, safety and backaches.
Sponges
If you don’t have a dishwasher in your kitchen, life can be tough. Using sponges can carry a lot of germs if they’re not replaced or cleansed properly. Try thoroughly soaking the sponge in water and putting it in the microwave for one minute. This will kill significant amounts of bacteria on the sponge. After the sponge has cooled off, remove it from the microwave and wring out the excess water. Make sure its not too hot, you don’t want to burn your hands. The great part about using this method is that it loosens up residue that is stuck on the microwave. The water from the sponge and the heat make it easy to wipe away old stains. Wring out your sponge and lay it down to dry between uses. This is imperative because bacteria needs moisture to grow.
Pain In The Back
If you spend most of your time in the kitchen, you may have experienced backache. Standing in one spot for an extended amount of time can do a number on your body. Place a cushioned mat where you spend most of your time. This will help anyone who has had pains in their feet, legs and back.
Safety
For all you cooks who have wobbly cutting boards without the special rubber matting, we have a little trick that can help prevent you from losing a finger. Wet a kitchen towel and lay it underneath your cutting board. This should make it more stable when you’re cutting your food.
