The rain-soaked, near sunless summer meant that locally grown crops have been hard to come by in recent months. Typically we offer twenty locally grown items, this year the weather cut that to eight.
But there’s good news on two fronts. First, the situation forced us to prove how resilient Trucchi’s is, and allowed us to procure produce from other sources, primarily New Jersey and Canada.
The other good news is that the new season is just a few weeks away, and we’re happy to report that soon locally grown apples, pears, cranberries and squash will soon be available – fresh cider too. It’s on the way now.
And here’s e scary news: Pumpkin prices are higher this year. That’s right, the same rainy weather that cost us many local crops has also affected pumpkins. Complicating matters is that when they have to be shipped in from Michigan and Ohio their weight drives the transportation costs up. That’s where the increase will come from. Can you say, “boo”?
